PATRIOTS 04 WIN NORCAL STATE CUP “U11 White Platinum 3″ GROUP!

NorCal-Cup-Champion-U11---Copy

The Sagebrush Patriots 04 U11 girls won the NorCal State Cup U11 Girls White Platinum 3 group in Manteca California to finish their successful 2014 soccer year.

For the second year in a row, the girls ended up tied in regulation play and through 2 overtime periods to end up deciding the championship game in Kicks from the spot.

The game vs. Santa Clara Sporting 03 White U11 Girls turned out as expected, and although the Patriots girls dominated affairs throughout the game, Santa Clara defended well and had a fantastic game from their goal keeper who had saves in the double digits during the game. In fact it was her successful saves that forced the game into overtime and into penalty kicks.

Patriots 04 NorCal Chmp 1

After winning the coin toss, the girls elected to take the kicks on the goal closest to their parents which had front row seating to the proceedings. With the game on the line Kayla M. Lined up to goal keep during the penalties and the girls gave the referees the kicking line up.

With Sarah L. starting up followed by Erin C. Kayla M. Morgan M. Ysabella S. Vivian F. Riley W. and Vanessa M. On the bench supporting their teammates were Brianna M. Sarah O. and Cami C.

Santa Clara lined up to take the first kick with Kayla making a fantastic diving save to her right to send the ball inches wide off the post. Next, Sarah L. took to the spot and with a calculated shot, she positioned the ball out of the reach of the diving keeper to go up 1-0. Santa Clara followed with their second shot straight to the Kayla who made the save to position the Patriots 1 up on the score.

Erin C. took the Patriots 2nd kick in what was a carbon copy of the Santa Clara shot and the ball was saved by the keeper keeping the score 1-0.

It was Santa Clara’s 3rd shot that was taken beautifully by their player placing the ball wide and low just out of Kayla’s reach to give them the 1-1 score after 3 shots. It was then Kayla’s own turn to take her kick to try to give Patriots the lead, but the shot was straight to the Santa Clara’s keeper who dutifully made the save keeping the score even at 1-1 after 3 kicks for both teams.

For the 4th shot for Santa Clara, their player placed a beautiful shot to the left side of Kayla who could only watch as the ball went into the net, giving Santa Clara the upper hand on the score with a 1-2 and casting a not-so-good outcome for the Patriots for the second year in a row, but it was Morgan M.’s turn for the Patriots 4th shot, and as she walked to the spot, she kept telling herself not to miss again after the memories from last year’s missed shot filled her mind. And it was not to be a repeat, she stood still waiting for the whistle and with a calm approach, she placed the ball low and wide to score to even the scores at 2-2.

It was then up to the keeper for Santa Clara to put them ahead as the next kicker, and as she kicked the ball, her shot went just over the bar giving the chance for the Patriots to win the game with the 5th and last kick before going into sudden death.

The stage was set for Ysabella S. to finishing things up for the Patriots, as she listened to the referee’s instructions, she nervously grasped her hands and rocked her knees with the anticipation of what could be.

She did not hesitate, with a decisive touch, she kicked the ball with power and direction scoring past the keeper whom came inches from making the save.

Patriots win in pk’s with a final score of 3-2.

Winning the championship after traveling several times to Northern California to play, sometimes only 1 game after driving 4 hours one way, is a just reward for the girls dedication and also for the parents commitment.

Winning the championship also gives additional recognition to the Sagebrush Patriots and the Patriots Academy program, as the consistency of our players at the different ages, is demonstrated by this win being the second in two years time with two different teams, in 2012 it was the Patriots 02 wining their U11 division, followed by the Patriots 04 taking 2nd in 2013 in the U10 division, and now first in 2014.

Playing in NorCal Premier is a privilege for Sagebrush Teams that provides a platform for growth and development of our players, where other clubs and programs offer a chance to “play” soccer, Sagebrush Soccer Club offers a chance to not just “play” soccer, but to learn and develop soccer skills as well as life skills through the exposure to the environments that no other club in the area can.

Patriots 04 Win NorCal State Cup Semi-Final in the “White 2-Platinum 3″ Group, Advance to Championship NorCal Game Sunday 12/7

20141206_114952

The U11 Patriots 04 Girls won their semi final game played today at the Woodward Sports complex in Manteca, CA

The Patriots 04 are placed in the NorCal State Cup group “U11 White 2 – Platinum 3” Level. The girls started in the “White” group this season after competing last year in the group below, “Blue” division and taking 2nd place out of the 24th team group.

Their ranking this year placed them in the most experienced white group and through the pool play, the girls finished 17th out of 32 teams, placing them in the current platinum group, right above the “Gold” level teams or right around 80 place ranking out of 152 teams in the division, an increase in ranking of around 40 places.

NoCal State cup participation closes what has been a long year for the girls, and playing in the championship game for the second year in a row, shows the consistency and growth of the girls, as well as the growth of the Patriots program.

This morning’s game saw the girls start by cheerfully singing Ginggle Bells for the Parents of both teams and immediately went to work, scoring 4 goals in the first half and dominating proceedings. The second half saw most of the same and the girls scored 3 more goals to finish the game 7-0.

The girls were able to keep another clean sheet and displayed an impressive defense throughout the 8 games to date in the competition, having conceded 6 goals in 8 games and outscoring opponents  26-6, keeping 4 clean sheets in the process.

Tomorrow’s game places the Patriots girls vs. Santa Clara Sporting 03G White Girls whom won their semifinal game in penalty kicks after over time ending 1-1 vs. the Black Oaks Youth Soccer Club Lady Oaks.

The Championship game is scheduled for 10:40 at the Woodward Sports Complex field 6 tomorrow.

U11 Girls Patriots 04 Win Quarter Final in the NorCal State Cup “White 2-Platinum 3” Group.

The Patriots 04 U11 girls played their 2nd and 3rd games of the second round for the 2014 NorCal State Cup competition this weekend in Ripon California.

They played the morning game on Saturday vs. the Heritage SC Hot Shots girls wining by a 7-0 margin in what was a wet field at 8 in the morning. The Saturday afternoon game was played vs. the River City United Barcelona 03 girls in a game which the Patriots girls won 3-1.

With these two wins, the girls overcame a loss on the 1st game of the second round of 0-1 vs. Castro Valley SC United Green 03-04 on 11/2 to finish seeded 5th in the White group of 16 teams in the second round.

As luck would have it, the team that finished 2nd seed out of 16 was Castro Valley united Green 03-04 and in a twist of luck, the Patriots 04 girls were matched up vs. Castro Valley Utd green on the today’s Sunday morning quarterfinal for a re-match of the previous game.

This set up an exciting quarter final game that saw the Patriots with lots of possession on the ball but without a break through by either team, but on the 21st minute of the first half, after wining possession on the right side of the field at the half way point, Ysabella Stalcup, joining the attack from right D crossed a ball into the penalty area, which the CVSC keeper could not control and through perseverance, Sarah Ochsner playing forward followed through to put the ball in the net with a controlled touch just to put the ball out of the keeper’s reach. The first half finished 1-0.

In the second half, both teams had more of the same from the get go and on the 5th minute, Kayla Martinez started a play on the left flank of the pitch, beating her defender and crossing the ball across the 18 to Morgan Means whom provided a dropped pass to Sarah Liley for the shot on goal to score the second goal for the Patriots. The CVSC Keeper made a great effort to do the save but Sarah’s shot was slightly deflected by a defender putting the ball just out of reach of the keeper and into the bottom right corner of the goal. Patriots controlled a bit more possession the rest of the game with a few break aways from CVSC that saw them win a few corners. However, the Patriots girls defended every corner like seasoned professionals with each player quickly setting up on their assigned positions to continue with the tight defensive streak of only allowing 1 goal in three matches during the weekend.

Late in the second half CVSC Green had a burst of effort and created several opportunities in front of the Patriots goal and late in the game, they had a free kick that saw the Patriots defense come up on top again with Keeper Vanessa Medina leading the charge by stopping the shot to the side for her defenders to clear the danger away from goal.

The Patriots 04 girls now play on December 6 in Manteca, California at the Woodward  in the semi final game of their group.
