The Sagebrush Patriots 04 U11 girls won the NorCal State Cup U11 Girls White Platinum 3 group in Manteca California to finish their successful 2014 soccer year.

For the second year in a row, the girls ended up tied in regulation play and through 2 overtime periods to end up deciding the championship game in Kicks from the spot.

The game vs. Santa Clara Sporting 03 White U11 Girls turned out as expected, and although the Patriots girls dominated affairs throughout the game, Santa Clara defended well and had a fantastic game from their goal keeper who had saves in the double digits during the game. In fact it was her successful saves that forced the game into overtime and into penalty kicks.

After winning the coin toss, the girls elected to take the kicks on the goal closest to their parents which had front row seating to the proceedings. With the game on the line Kayla M. Lined up to goal keep during the penalties and the girls gave the referees the kicking line up.

With Sarah L. starting up followed by Erin C. Kayla M. Morgan M. Ysabella S. Vivian F. Riley W. and Vanessa M. On the bench supporting their teammates were Brianna M. Sarah O. and Cami C.

Santa Clara lined up to take the first kick with Kayla making a fantastic diving save to her right to send the ball inches wide off the post. Next, Sarah L. took to the spot and with a calculated shot, she positioned the ball out of the reach of the diving keeper to go up 1-0. Santa Clara followed with their second shot straight to the Kayla who made the save to position the Patriots 1 up on the score.

Erin C. took the Patriots 2nd kick in what was a carbon copy of the Santa Clara shot and the ball was saved by the keeper keeping the score 1-0.

It was Santa Clara’s 3rd shot that was taken beautifully by their player placing the ball wide and low just out of Kayla’s reach to give them the 1-1 score after 3 shots. It was then Kayla’s own turn to take her kick to try to give Patriots the lead, but the shot was straight to the Santa Clara’s keeper who dutifully made the save keeping the score even at 1-1 after 3 kicks for both teams.

For the 4th shot for Santa Clara, their player placed a beautiful shot to the left side of Kayla who could only watch as the ball went into the net, giving Santa Clara the upper hand on the score with a 1-2 and casting a not-so-good outcome for the Patriots for the second year in a row, but it was Morgan M.’s turn for the Patriots 4th shot, and as she walked to the spot, she kept telling herself not to miss again after the memories from last year’s missed shot filled her mind. And it was not to be a repeat, she stood still waiting for the whistle and with a calm approach, she placed the ball low and wide to score to even the scores at 2-2.

It was then up to the keeper for Santa Clara to put them ahead as the next kicker, and as she kicked the ball, her shot went just over the bar giving the chance for the Patriots to win the game with the 5th and last kick before going into sudden death.

The stage was set for Ysabella S. to finishing things up for the Patriots, as she listened to the referee’s instructions, she nervously grasped her hands and rocked her knees with the anticipation of what could be.

She did not hesitate, with a decisive touch, she kicked the ball with power and direction scoring past the keeper whom came inches from making the save.

Patriots win in pk’s with a final score of 3-2.

Winning the championship after traveling several times to Northern California to play, sometimes only 1 game after driving 4 hours one way, is a just reward for the girls dedication and also for the parents commitment.

Winning the championship also gives additional recognition to the Sagebrush Patriots and the Patriots Academy program, as the consistency of our players at the different ages, is demonstrated by this win being the second in two years time with two different teams, in 2012 it was the Patriots 02 wining their U11 division, followed by the Patriots 04 taking 2nd in 2013 in the U10 division, and now first in 2014.

Playing in NorCal Premier is a privilege for Sagebrush Teams that provides a platform for growth and development of our players, where other clubs and programs offer a chance to “play” soccer, Sagebrush Soccer Club offers a chance to not just “play” soccer, but to learn and develop soccer skills as well as life skills through the exposure to the environments that no other club in the area can.
